Basic Beekeeping Workshop

A Basic Beekeeping Workshop will be held at Virginia Tech Eastern Shore AREC, 33446 Research Dr, Painter, VA, Saturday, March 14, from 8:30 to 1:00 p.m. The workshop is part of the Small Farm Outreach Program, part of the Virginia Cooperative Extension program at Virginia State University (VSU).
This educational workshop is free and open to the public. Space is limited. To register, visit www.ext.vsu.edu/calendar, click on the event and then click on the registration link.
VDACS State Aparist Keith Tignor will provide classroom instructions on the following topics; Colony Collapse Disorder, VDACS Pollinator Protection Plan, Grants available for Beekeepers, Beekeeper Equipment, Beehive Components, and Construction and Maintenance. The classroom instruction will be followed by a demonstration of how to open, inspect and maintain a beehive. Attendees must bring their own bee suit and wear long sleeves, pants and closed-toe shoes in order to participate in the hands-on demonstration with live hives.
