Beginning Beekeepers’ Course

February 16, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 1:30 pm

Beekeeping is an art, a science, and a fascinating adventure that can be a hobby or even a business success through mentoring and education.

The Beekeepers’ Guild of the Eastern Shore is offering a beginning beekeepers’ course to help get participants started in a honey-making venture that includes a hands-on “open hive” experience. To register for the $30 class, visit www.bgesva.org or call George Brown, president of the group at 757-787-2195.

The event is Saturday, March 9 and 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Onancock School, 6 College Avenue, in Onancock. The fee includes the textbook, “Beekeeping basics, course materials, a breakfast/light lunch, and a three-month membership with the guild.

“Participants will meet many beekeepers from the Eastern Shore during the two-day course” with the opportunity to be linked with mentors, said Brown. “We are a friendly group and have nine meetings per year and an annual picnic.”

The membership fee is $20 a year.
