Solid Rock Bluegrass Gospel will perform at Hungars Episcopal Church 4 p.m. Sunday, April 14.  A meet-the-artists reception will follow in the Church Parish House.

The band began as a Southern Gospel group in 1993.  However, as new members joined the ensemble, it emerged as “Solid Rock” and became entirely a bluegrass Gospel band.  A not-for-profit music ministry, all of its band members have full-time jobs and are not paid for their musical services.

According to their website, the original group “started toying around with the guitar and banjo and interested their members in performing an occasional bluegrass Gospel song.”  They found that “audiences loved it because they rarely ever heard that type of music.” They now perform extensively, with a three-fold mission: “to express thanks to God, to encourage the saints of God in their walk with Him, and to share the Gospel of Christ with those who are lost.”

The Hungars Concert performances are free and open to the public.  A free-will offering is accepted to sustain the series in the future.  Hungars is located at 10107 Bayside Road, Machipongo.
