Chincoteague Cultural Alliance 16th Annual Plein Air Art Show
September 14 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Chincoteague Cultural Alliance hosts its 16th Annual Plein Air Art Show on Saturday, September 14, from 6-9 pm at the Chincoteague Center, 6155 Community Drive.
“Plein Air” means painting or drawing outdoors, capturing the scene before the light changes. More than 50 artists, many nationally known, have been working on Chincoteague and Assateague throughout the week, creating unique portraits of the town and the refuge. Hundreds of their paintings, some still wet, will be on display and for sale on Saturday evening
CCA’s first plein air event in 2003 involved just a handful of painters exhibiting in a small hotel conference room. It has grown so much that this year the show is at the Island’s largest venue. Admission and parking are free, along with free refreshments and a cash bar
“At the new venue, it should be easier to see all of the artwork, to visit with the artists and enjoy the company of neighbors and visitors who come to the show,” said event co-chair, Nancy Richards West. “But, remember,” she added, “this event is so popular that people line up to be first inside when we unlock the doors. To get the best selection of artworks, be sure to come early.”
A portion of the proceeds from the art sale benefits the Chincoteague Cultural Alliance, which produces more than 120 arts events on the Island each year.
