“Great Art Heists”: An Evening of Mysteries & Mishaps

May 6, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Images of Japanese gangsters and daring boat getaways paint a much different picture of
the fine art world than most envision when they first hear the word “museum.”
Take a trip around the globe with Virginia Museum of Fine Arts faculty member Anne Kenny-Urban to learn how museums from the Netherlands to Zimbabwe have been targets for thieves and what tools the criminals have used to elude detection. Find out who’s been caught … and who hasn’t …

Join the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society in conjunction with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts for a free online presentation at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 6, of “Stranger than Fiction: Great Art Heists.”

Kenny-Urban is the executive director of Agecroft Hall & Gardens in Richmond. The Tudor manor house, now a house museum, was built in England in the 16 th century and moved to Virginia in 1925. Kenny-Urban has a bachelor of arts degree from Princeton, a master’s in art history from the University of Chicago, and did her MBA work at Northwestern.
