Live Theatre: A Bad Year for Tomatoes

June 17, 2021 @ 7:00 pm

The Chincoteague Cultural Alliance presents its first live theatre and concert performances of the year this week at the Community Center for the Arts, 6309 Church Street. Both are outdoors, so bring a chair.

On Thursday, June 17, at 7 pm, the Chincoteague Island Theatre Company performs a staged reading of “A Bad Year for Tomatoes” written by John Patrick and directed by Lexi Hubb. In this hilarious comedy, a retired actress (played by Maria Burns) comes to a small town to be alone, write her memoir, and grow tomatoes. But she is constantly interrupted by her agent (Cliff Murden), the local hospitality ladies (Byrd Donaldson and Elizabeth Dook), the neighborhood occultist (Debbie Hennel), and the local yokel (Justin Aruck). Mayhem ensues when the actress invents a crazy sister to keep the townspeople at bay. Eventually, local sheriff (Paul Dook) is called in to deal with the chaos.

Suggested donation is $5.

Beer, wine, and soft drinks will be available for sale.

Rain date for the show is Thursday, June 23.
