Parasite (2019)
South Korea, Korean/English
It’s modern day South Korea and we meet the Parks: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kims, rich in street smarts but not much else. These two families are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Soon, a mutually beneficial relationship forms between the two families. Now, the stage is set for a winner-take-all class war. Parasite can’t precisely be labelled a comedy, a thriller, nor a socially conscious drama about the class divide in South Korea, although it contains elements of all three. “Parasite” is gripping from beginning to end, full of big bangs and small wonders. And how does one get rid of a parasite?
