The Island Theatre Begins Its 75th Anniversary Celebration with Movie Showing on June 3rd

July 3, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

In 1947, the Island Theatre on Chincoteague first opened its doors and issued in a new era of live and movie entertainment for island residents and visitors. The theatre, now restored, owned, and managed by the Chincoteague Island Arts Organization, will be marking its 75 th year with multiple special events in addition to our regular events and movies.
The anniversary celebration starts with a gift to the community and patrons who have supported the theatre for so many years. On the first Sunday afternoon of each month from June through December, the theatre will be showing a classic movie from 1947. Matinee showtime is 3:00 p.m., and admission is free for these special movies.
While we can’t guarantee that these movies were shown in the theatre in 1947, it’s certainly possible that they were. So come to the Island Theatre to see these movies for a nostalgic trip back in time.

July 3: “Fort Apache” – An honorable, veteran war captain finds conflict when he is placed under the command of a young, glory-hungry lieutenant colonel with no respect for the local Indian tribe. Starring John Wayne and Henry Fonda.
