Town-Wide Read and a Movie

February 17, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

During the month of January residents of Cape Charles and the Eastern Shore are encouraged to read the book The Magnificent Ambersons. This book was written by Booth Tarkington in 1918 and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1919, the year our Library was founded. This read will be followed by a showing of the movie The Magnificent Ambersons on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at the Historic Palace Theatre at 3:00 p.m.

The Cape Charles Memorial Library has copies of the book available to Library Patrons. Peach Street Books also has copies of the book for sale. Additionally, since the book is now in the public domain it is available free online at various download websites, such as the Apple Store or Project Gutenberg.

The 100th Anniversary Committee is hoping that these two events will bring about an appreciation for the history of our library which was founded long ago by thirty-two civic-minded women sharing books from their front porches.
